Striking through text that is no longer accurate without deleting it
<s> — Struck-through text
The <s> element represents content that is no longer accurate or relevant, but has not been removed from the document. It differs from <del>, which indicates an editorial deletion.
When to use it
You want to strike through an old price next to the new one, flag an expired offer, or signal outdated information. For an editorial change (with history), use <del> and <ins>.
What you gain
Accessibility: unlike <del>, screen readers do not treat <s> differently from normal text. The visual strikethrough is the only signal. If the information "this price is no longer valid" matters, add visible text ("was") rather than relying on CSS alone.
